JJ Chalmers and Jeanette Kwakye present coverage of this morning’s action at the games, including the early rounds of the women’s 100m hurdles, men’s 5,000m and men’s high jump.

At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, legendary Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim shared the gold medal with Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi in a moment of joyful sportsmanship. Both will be expected to safely negotiate today’s qualifying round.

Two-time world champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway will begin his 5,000m campaign, and there’s the latest action from sailing, track cycling and sport climbing’s speed event.

Hazel Irvine introduces another high-octane afternoon of Olympic action with hockey, weightlifting and track cycling taking centre stage in the French capital.

The women’s hockey semi-final opens up a jam-packed afternoon before weightlifting crowns a men’s 61kg Olympic champion.

Over at the velodrome, the men’s sprint and women’s keirin continue in the early stages, plus the men’s and women’s team pursuit will both crown their champions too. Team GB have enjoyed a lot of success on bikes in recent games, but Italy, Denmark and Germany also boast proud records in the sport.

Some of the biggest names in athletics will battle for the podium on a remarkable night of Olympic sport, with Cornwall's Molly Caudery among the British contenders.

Caudery won the world indoor title in March and broke the national record in June. Can she continue that form to earn an Olympic medal? Fellow Brit Matt Hudson-Smith has developed a major medal-winning habit in recent years and will expect to be in the mix again in the 400m. Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna has the possibility of making Olympic history in the discus – if he emulates his dad Virgilijus, they will become the first father-son duo to both win gold.

In the boxing ring, Sofiane Oumiha, Lasha Guruli and Ireland’s Dean Clancy headline the men’s lightweight category, while Arlen Lopez of Cuba is aiming for a third straight Olympic gold.
