The Hidden World Of Hospitality | Preview (BBC Two)

Tom Kerridge is lifting the lid on the industry he knows and loves, revealing how it operates, the skilled and passionate professionals driving it forward and the risks they are taking to put a smile on our faces.

In this first episode, he explores a part of the industry close to his heart; the highly skilled and competitive world of fine dining. He meets chefs who, like him, are obsessed with the pursuit of culinary excellence. Is it possible to reach perfection when chefs are, by nature, never satisfied?

In the Lake District, chef Ryan Blackburn has held a Michelin Star since 2019, offering a tasting menu celebrating the very best of Cumbrian produce. But praise and accolades are a mixed blessing for Ryan. He feels a huge weight of expectation on his shoulders and finds himself constantly checking reviews and questioning his decisions.

Tom offers Ryan advice, borne out of his own past experiences of letting the pressure of being a celebrated chef in high-end kitchens affect his health.

With the Michelin awards fast approaching, Ryan and Tom are both tireless developing new dishes for their respective menus, both dishes need to meet the high expectations of guests and Michelin inspectors, but Tom and Ryan will have to convince themselves first.

In Yorkshire, husband and wife team, Bobby and Minal Patel are striving for accolades of their own at their restaurant, Prashad. By introducing a tasting menu showcasing high quality Gujarati cuisine, they are hoping to become the first Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in the county.

The menu gets a big thumbs up from their customers but will it be enough to win over the inspectors?
