BBC Scotland has commissioned new two-part documentary, Terror at the Terminal offering a definitive account of the 2007 Glasgow Airport attack. Combining remarkable first-hand testimony, rarely heard perspectives, archive and CCTV, Terror at the Terminal takes viewers inside one of the most significant counter-terrorism investigations in modern British history before placing them at the heart of the extraordinary events at Glasgow Airport.

The first episode unfolds as an investigative thriller. Through interviews with members of the Security Services, counter-terrorism detectives and those responsible for thwarting terrorist plots, it reveals how Bilal Abdulla and Kafeel Ahmed met, became radicalised and quietly assembled their plans while Britain's security agencies were disrupting other major conspiracies.

The second programme shifts from investigation to immersive human testimony, reconstructing the attack on Glasgow Airport moment by moment through the people who experienced it. At the same time, the documentary follows the national response as Jacqui Smith, facing her first weekend as the newly appointed Home Secretary, dealt with her first major terrorist incident in office. She and other contributors including Kenny MacAskill reflect on how governments, emergency services and communities in Scotland responded as events unfolded.

David Harron, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries and Specialist Factual at BBC Scotland said: “The Glasgow Airport attack of summer 2007 was a truly shocking event and this new series will chart the inside story of the attack, the cat and mouse race between the terrorists and police and the subsequent global intelligence operation to uncover the truth. With testimony from eyewitnesses, politicians and security experts Terror At The Terminal promises to be a gripping and fascinating watch.”

Mick McAvoy, Executive Producer at Firecrest Films says: “Terror at the Terminal will take viewers inside the dramatic events that saw Scotland become the target for a new and evolving form of international terrorism. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Matt Pinder, it combines extraordinary testimony from those who faced the terrorists, investigated the plots and led the security response, with remarkable archive to tell a gripping story of terror, courage and the race to stop a new threat.”

More details will be announced in due course.
