THE GALWAY BAY MURDERS: ITV ACQUIRES NEW CRIME THRILLER STARRING KATE MULGREW AND COLM MEANEY
ITV has acquired The Galway Bay Murders, a gripping new six-part crime thriller starring Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager, Orange Is the New Black) and Colm Meaney (The Commitments, Gangs of London), to air on ITV1 and stream on ITVX.

From Two Cities Television, the acclaimed producers behind hit police drama Blue Lights, the atmospheric new series transports viewers to Ireland’s rugged west coast, where a shocking murder draws a former New York detective into a dangerous investigation.
Set against the breathtaking landscape of Connemara, The Galway Bay Murders follows seasoned NYPD detective Nora Savage (Kate Mulgrew), who arrives in the west of Ireland hoping to escape a traumatic past and find a quieter life.
However, her plans are shattered when the body of a young woman is discovered in a bog, drawing Nora into a complex murder investigation alongside the local Garda team.
As the investigation deepens, the detectives uncover a trail leading to Free Farm, an ambitious organisation where young people live and work together on sustainable farming and scientific research. Beneath its seemingly idyllic exterior lies a tangled web of secrets, competing loyalties and hidden motives, with potentially devastating consequences.
Combining a compelling murder mystery with richly drawn characters, dark humour and spectacular scenery, the six-part drama explores how far people will go to protect their secrets and the lengths one woman will go to uncover the truth.
The ensemble cast also includes John Connors (The Gentlemen, Irish Blood), India Mullen (Normal People, Under Salt Marsh), Cillian O’Sullivan (Daredevil: Born Again, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) and Jack Rowan (A Town Called Malice, Wreck).
Darren Nartey, Head of Content Acquisitions at ITV, said: “The Galway Bay Murders is precisely the kind of bold, high-calibre drama our audiences love. Eithne Verling has crafted a completely magnetic crime thriller, with an outstanding cast led by Kate Mulgrew and Colm Meaney, a compelling central mystery and the stunning backdrop of Ireland’s west coast. We’re thrilled to partner with ITV Studios, Two Cities Television and RTÉ to bring this captivating new series to the ITV audience”
Louisa Forsyth, VP UK & Ireland Sales at ITV Studios, said: “We are thrilled to have secured this pre-sale with ITV for The Galway Bay Murders, bringing the series to audiences across the UK. This atmospheric crime thriller brings together the acclaimed production team from Two Cities Television with incredible on-screen talent, and we can’t wait for it to grip UK viewers.”
Stephen Wright, Joint CEO & Creative Director, Two Cities Television, added: “Two Cities Television are thrilled to bring The Galway Bay Murders to a global audience. Along with our production partners at Keeper Productions (The Gone) and As I Am, we are proud to champion Eithne Verling’s vision and Kate Mulgrew’s passion for Galway and Connemara in this gripping new crime thriller."
The Galway Bay Murders is created and written by Eithne Verling, a former archaeologist and museum curator whose deep personal connection to the region informs the drama’s distinctive storytelling. The series marks Verling’s television writing debut, with all six episodes written specifically for Mulgrew following a chance meeting between the pair in Galway that developed into a close friendship.
The series is directed by Joe Lawlor and Christine Molloy (Baltimore, Kin) and produced by Two Cities Television (part of STV Studios), Keeper Pictures and AS I AM Productions. Commissioned by Irish broadcaster RTÉ, The Galway Bay Murders is made in association with and distributed internationally by ITV Studios.
The Galway Bay Murders (6 x 60’) will air on ITV1 and be available to stream on ITVX.
