A&E: Crash Scene Emergency | Preview (Channel 5)

Britain’s roads are getting more and more dangerous. Every 16 minutes, someone is killed.

This gritty new documentary series filmed at one of the country’s largest trauma units, University Hospital Coventry, follows medical teams working against the clock to save the lives of people injured in traffic collisions.

The series follows unfolding real-life stories minute by minute, from jaw-dropping accidents to roadside recovery, from time-critical decisions in the emergency department to cutting edge surgery.

In the first edition, 20-year-old Jess is critically injured when the car she was driving collided with another vehicle, flipped and landed on its roof. In the vehicle with her is older sister Jaimie-Leigh who suffers a broken neck. Medical staff and a team of surgeons race against the clock in a fight to save Jess’s hand from amputation. Will they succeed?

Mike, 52, is thrown from his motorbike at 50mph. Despite being given the all-clear from serious internal injuries Mike’s heartrate takes a worrying turn, giving the emergency medical team cause for concern.

Sixty-one-year-old John stepped into the road straight into the path of an oncoming vehicle. In resus the emergency medics at University Hospital Coventry have to act quickly to treat an open break in his leg and get him ready for theatre.

Begins Monday 15th January at 9pm on Channel 5.
