EXCLUSIVE

ITV are in talks to merge its flagship breakfast show Good Morning Britain with its news offering, ITV News, which is produced by ITN.

The rumoured merger would see the shows existing news producers and behind-the-scenes planning teams at Television Centre merge with ITV News' team at ITN headquarters in Gray's Inn Road in London. TV Zone has approached ITV for comment.

The extent of merger is not clear at this stage, with some talk amongst staff that the show could decamp entirely to ITN, a move which would see the show leave Television Centre and relocate to one of ITN's studios. However, this detail has not been substantiated. In any case, the Good Morning Britain brand is expected to continue.

Earlier today (Monday 12 May), GB News published a leaked letter from the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) to Good Morning Britain staff after it had heard concerns over "the recent rumours about GMB’s future". No further details were provided.

Good Morning Britain first launched in April 2014 on ITV, replacing Daybreak in the breakfast slot. Nowadays, the show is presented by Susanna Reid alongside Richard Madeley and Ed Balls. Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins, Ranvir Singh and Adil Ray are also regular presenters.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
