Qatar vs Ecuador

Group A - 4pm GMT - BBC One

Gary Lineker introduces live coverage of the opening game at this year’s World Cup, with hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador in the first of 64 matches over the next month.

The country’s footballers are the reigning Asian champions but face a tough task progressing from Group A, with this match followed by tricky encounters against Senegal and Netherlands.

Ecuador meanwhile, is making only their fourth World Cup appearance and first since 2014.

But they impressed in South American qualifying rounds, earning draws with both Brazil and Argentina, and can call upon Premier League players such as Moises Caicedo and Pervis Estupinan, both of whom play for Brighton.

Commentary comes from Steve Bower and Dion Dublin.
