JANE McDONALD TO HOST THE BRITISH SOAP AWARDS 2023 ON ITV

The British Soap Awards returns to ITV1 and ITVX this June to once again celebrate the nation's biggest and most-loved soaps.

This year the awards will take place at The Lowry in Salford. As always, the numerous awards will be presented by an array of well-known faces from across the TV and showbiz world.

Jane McDonald has been revealed - according to reports - as the host for the ceremony, replacing Phillip Schofield who resigned from all ITV projects earlier this month after it emerged he has lied over an affair he had with a younger male This Morning colleague.

For 2023,˜the Best Family category will move into the panel vote, whilst the˜Best Villain and Best Young Performer will both move into the public vote. Returning to its previous format, the awards will broadcast in a pre-recorded midweek primetime slot. As always, the award ceremony will celebrate a mammoth year in soap opera, looking back on twelve months of murder, mystery, make-ups, break ups, trials, tribulations and tears.

An incredible year in which Mick and Janine Carter dramatically departed Albert Square in EastEnders, Daisy Midgely fell victim to a dangerous stalker in Coronation Street, Warren couldn't escape Norma's lies and manipulation in Hollyoaks, Paddy considered taking his own life following a build up of isolation, grief and confusion in Emmerdale and Rob was left devastated following Karen's sudden death in Doctors.

The five biggest soaps - Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks - will be battling it out to win recognition for their work over the past year. Some of the biggest faces from all five soaps will be hitting the red carpet for the most star-studded and glamorous event in the soap calendar.

The British Soap Awards 2023 air Tuesday 6th June from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
