RICH WEDDING POOR WEDDING RETURNS TO CHANNEL 5 FOR FULL SERIES FOLLOWING SUCCESSFUL PILOT

Channel 5 have announced a full series order for Rich Wedding Poor Wedding, a spin-off of popular format Rich House Poor House. The broadcast have confirmed to The Sun newspaper that the show will be returning for a further four episodes.

With the average cost of a wedding in the UK hitting £25,000 in 2024 — and some people happy to spend many tens of thousands more — we ask: is it actually worth it? Does nuptial bliss lie in a no-expense-spared wedding, where the bride and groom can be fairytale royalty? Or is the secret to happiness a budget day, where “something old, something borrowed” is the mantra, and everyone contributes a little to make the big day personal and special?

To find out what really matters on a wedding day, one rich princess swaps her mega bridal budget with a Cinderella who can’t even afford to dream about more than the register office and a few drinks afterwards.

The rich bride has to examine exactly how to make a memorable day on a budget. She’ll have to think outside the box — maybe make her own dress, beg for food contributions, and find a free venue — while the groom gets busy home-brewing the beer and brushing off his guitar skills for the after-party.

Meanwhile, the low-income bride can’t believe her luck as she checks out the lush venues and bridal gowns. The couple agonise over the tricky choice between French champagne or vintage Californian wine for the reception. But will the endless choices spoil their dreams and cause more stress than joy, leaving the couple longing for a simpler day?

Cameras film every big choice on the perfect wedding day list: the venue, the food and drink, the dress and bridesmaids’ outfits, the entertainment, the flowers and photography — and of course, the stag and hen dos.

As viewers follow the tough decisions and creative solutions to a budget wedding on one side, how will the stresses and strains impact the bride and groom? Will they cheat on the budget? Will they make it down the aisle?

For our grand finale, both couples attend the other’s wedding day to see what might have been. And at the end of it all, they’ll decide: is money the key to true romance and happiness, or does love conquer all?

In Rich House, Poor House, two families from opposite ends of the wealth divide swap homes, budgets and lives for seven days to find out how the other half lives.

At the end of the week will each family discover they have much in common, despite their different financial circumstances? Or will they learn that in fact money, more than class, race or gender is the thing that divides us. Do families have less opportunities in life because of a lack of cash? And the series asks and hopefully answers that crucial question, does money buy you happiness?
