Springtime on the Farm is back! It’s the busiest time of the year for farmers Rob and Dave Nicholson at Cannon Hall Farm and, as always, they’re joined at the heart of the action by Helen Skelton, Jules Hudson and JB Gill.

As new life fills the fields, we’ll see newborn spring lambs, calves and donkeys - and follow the fortunes of the farm’s majestic Shire horses. And there are plenty of other animals to meet along the way.

With heart, humour and hard work at its core, the series follows the highs and lows of the spring season all across the UK, from its base in Barnsley, to the Scottish Highlands to South Wales and beyond. Rob, Dave and Jules hit the road to travel to farms across Britain, where they meet a variety of farmers including Adam Henson and Jimmy Doherty.

In the first episode, it’s springtime in South Yorkshire, the busiest time of the year for farmers Rob & Dave Nicholson - and once again, Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson are on hand to share all of the excitement.

Helen heads straight into the roundhouse with Rob and Dave, where lambing is in full swing. Never one to stand on the sidelines, she rolls up her sleeves and starts as she means to go on by getting stuck in at the very heart of the action.

Elsewhere, Rob takes Dave on a mystery road trip to visit fellow farmer Jimmy Doherty in Suffolk, who has an intriguing proposition involving a very special, endangered species. Dave is kept firmly in the dark about what awaits him, but after a tour of some truly extraordinary animals, the surprise is revealed – Rob has arranged to take two giant tortoises to their farm!

There’s also an emotional journey as Rob and Jules travel to St Albans to collect Cannon Hall Farm favourite Ruby the Shire horse. Heavily pregnant Ruby has been babysitting a lonely Shetland over the summer - and keen not to leave her on her own, the boys have taken a new friend along in the shape of their own rock star Shetland, Jon Bon Pony. But will the two new stable mates hit it off?

When Ruby returns to South Yorkshire, the focus turns to her wellbeing as her due date approaches - and concerns arise elsewhere when one of the farm’s miniature horses develops a worrying condition, prompting a visit from Yorkshire Vet Rohin.

Meanwhile, work is frantically underway to prepare a fitting enclosure for the farm’s new additions, the two giant tortoises – but will it be ready in time for their imminent arrival?

Springtime On The Farm returns Tuesday 21st April at 7pm on 5.
