Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts | Preview (Channel 4)

It's time to lift the lid on our gutsy insides and smash the poo taboo. Gut health is one of the most exciting new frontiers in science, and your poo holds surprising clues to your mental and physical wellbeing.

So, Channel 4 is throwing open the doors to Poo HQ: a myth-busting, attitude-shifting clinic where no poo problem is off limits.

Every episode sees real people with a variety of different issues candidly open up to a team of gut experts in the hope that they can get to the bottom of things.

We meet a poo-shy model who doesn't go for weeks at a time, a burlesque-loving retiree who has an eye-watering coping mechanism for her embarrassing incontinence, and a fitness fanatic who looks great on the outside, but can't figure out what's going on inside.

Dietician Sophie Medlin and gut expert Dr Rabia Topan unpack their problems and set them on a journey to physical and emotional improvement. Twin presenters Alana Macfarlane-Kempner and Lisa Macfarlane, who were among the first people in the world to have their own gut microbiomes tested in the name of scientific research, meet leading gut expert Professor Tim Spector.

Plus, they share easy gut hacks that everyone can try at home - including a simple test to see how long food takes to go from your mouth to your bottom; tips to pack your diet with fibre, and exercises to strengthen your anal sphincter muscles.

Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts begins Tuesday 17th January at 8pm on Channel 4.
