Join journeyman Ben Fogle as he visits former war journalist, 66-year-old Ali, to find out what took his host from a career reporting on the front line, to life on a remote island on Lake Victoria - learning of the events that bind Ali to Uganda’s violent past and discover how her beautiful home is helping heal her own wounds.

Ben travels across the second largest lake in the world to meet Ali, ‘one minute’ south of the equator. He discovers her magical home that she shares with her unexpected menagerie of camels.

A once overgrown bushland, it’s now an idyllic island sanctuary; together they take on garden and home upgrades, haul supplies, train the camels, and meet the remarkable fishing community whose shared mission with Ali is to protect this corner of Uganda’s great lake as a fish reserve.

Ben sees the recognition Ali has earned for her work and learns how she fought to save her island on Lake Victoria, rebuilding it after coming close to losing everything.
