It has been confirmed that, following the success of Boybands Forever last year, Girlbands Forever is coming to BBC Two and iPlayer later this year, once again produced by award-winning Mindhouse Productions and from BAFTA-winning producers Louis Theroux and Nancy Strang.

Girlbands Forever (3 x 60”) tells the inside story behind the success of some of the UK and Ireland’s most celebrated popstars during the 90s and early 00s such as the Spice Girls, Eternal, Girls Aloud and Atomic Kitten.

Featuring searingly honest interviews with the artists themselves, as well as the music label bosses and managers behind their ascent to fame, the series is a thoughtful look at the girlband phenomenon of that time and the cultural landscape it emerged from.

Contributors for the upcoming series are set to include Perrie Edwards, Kelle Bryan, Heidi Range, Kerry Katona, Melanie Blatt, Tulisa and Su-Elise Nash, according to The Sun.

Louis Theroux commented (via The Sun): "Going back and rediscovering all that music and those videos and the interviews they did has been an absolute pleasure.

“There was pain behind the music, too, and as is so often the case, there was a price to be paid for that level of young fame. But mainly we wanted this to be a celebration of a time of very special music and talent."

Boybands Forever is available now on BBC iPlayer.
