With 200 days to go until the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final 2027, the BBC and BBC Studios have confirmed that the search for an artist and song to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is underway, with a clear focus on presenting the very best of contemporary British music to millions of viewers across Europe and beyond.

Leading the search is UK Eurovision Project Director David May, who brings almost two decades of music industry experience to the role. As manager of Eurovision 2022 runner-up Sam Ryder, David May oversaw a remarkable success story that included a UK Number 1 album, two Number 2 singles and BRIT and Emmy Award nominations.

Working alongside David May is Andrew Cartmell, Executive Producer and Head of Delegation for the UK and together they are collaborating with colleagues from BBC Music, BBC Introducing, BBC Studios Entertainment Production and BBC Entertainment Commissioning to select the song and act that will be heading to the Arena Burgas in Bulgaria to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2027.

Drawing on the BBC's unparalleled music expertise and networks, the search reaches across the UK’s music labels, publishers and the thriving independent sector, home to some of the world's most exciting emerging talent.

Together, the team are identifying exceptional artists and songs that can capture the creativity, diversity and vibrancy of the contemporary UK music scene and who have the talent, drive and ambition to fly the flag for the United Kingdom and take on the world’s biggest music competition. With an estimated average audience of 160 million worldwide and a staggering 2.6 billion video views across major digital platforms, the Eurovision Song Contest continues to be a cultural powerhouse with huge cross generational appeal.

David May says: “We intend to be represented by an outstanding current British act, backed up by the very best songwriting and production talent the UK music industry has to offer. We are looking for an act with tried and tested live performance experience and a song crafted in the UK by the very best home-grown talent. I saw first-hand in 2022 what one performance at Eurovision can do for an artist’s career. The opportunity is still very much there and it’s time the United Kingdom reached the top of the Eurovision scoreboard once again.”

The chosen act and song will be announced ahead of the European Broadcasting Union's submission deadline in March 2027. The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, following Dara's victory in 2026 with her winning song Bangaranga.

The Semi Finals and Grand Final will be broadcast on BBC One, iPlayer, Radio 2 and BBC Sounds on 11, 13 and 15 May 2027.
