There’s an early Christmas gift for Bookish fans, as UKTV confirms the re-commission of the hit U&alibi drama, created by and starring Mark Gatiss. Viewers will be treated to a brand-new two-part festive special, Bookish: The Crown of Destiny (2x70’) alongside a third series (6x70’) of the much-loved detective drama with the latter set to air in 2027.

Bookish is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, part of ITV Studios, with Beta Film handling world sales as international distributor and PBS Distribution holding North American rights.

Bookish: The Crown of Destiny will see the appropriately named Gabriel Book (Gatiss) open the doors of Book’s Books on Archangel Lane for a brand-new story, bringing viewers a seasonal mystery packed with festive charm, surprises and a dash of Christmas spirit.

The celebrations don’t stop there as Bookish is confirmed to return for a third series, with production set to begin later this year. The new episodes will deliver even more of the intrigue, wit and compelling mysteries that have made Bookish a favourite with audiences, with more stories set to launch on U&alibi in 2027.

In series two of ‘Bookish’, the bibliophile sleuth investigates the world of spiritualism as he helps to solve a baffling case involving medium Harold Sneed (Jason Watkins) and a séance full of suspects.

Off Savile Row, Inspector Bliss (Elliot Levey) asks Book to help in a puzzling crime at a gentleman’s outfitters - the elderly tailor Maxie Kleinmann (Allan Corduner) is keen to confess to murder, but the evidence doesn’t quite stack up and points to something much more complex and sinister.

And Book and Jack are sent to the seemingly charming German village of Würl by the mysterious ‘E’ (Simon Callow) to thwart a thieving Duchess (Miranda Richardson) at Christmas time. However, festivities take a deadly turn when Book and Jack (Connor Finch) uncover secrets of their own in a castle brimming with shady characters.

Book’s association with the police continues to be not without its personal dangers and his lavender marriage with childhood best friend Trottie (Polly Walker), is threatened by the debonair Colonel Winters (Rupert Graves).

More details on Bookish: The Crown of Destiny and the storylines and guest stars for Series 3 will be revealed in the coming months.
