MICHAEL McINTYRE'S THE WHEEL RENEWED FOR THIRD SERIES ON BBC ONE

Before the second series has aired, the BBC have confirmed that the popular Saturday night gameshow will return for a third series.

The BBC have ordered another ten episodes for its third series. The second series, comprising of twelve episodes and a Christmas special, is expected to begin next month on BBC One. Three Olympic specials were shown over the Summer of 2021.

Commenting on the commission of a second series, Michael McIntyre said: "I am thrilled by the success of The Wheel. The series was so much fun to host and I love how the gameplay in every show was so different but always entertaining and suspenseful."

In each show, seven fantastic celebrities are strapped to the circumference of the giant wheel. Each celebrity has brought one area of expertise to the show – and it is on these areas that the contestants must answer questions.

The contestants themselves are underneath The Wheel, on another smaller wheel. This Contestant Wheel is spun, and whichever contestant is randomly selected, rises up on their chair, to take their place at the centre of The Wheel and begin the game.

The contestant at the centre of The Wheel is in control – if they can stay there until the end of the show then they could win a life-changing sum of money. However, one wrong answer or spin of The Wheel and they’ll be back down to the Contestant Wheel.

It comes after NBC ordered an American version of the show, also hosted by Michael McIntyre. Filming on this series is due to begin shortly.

Episodes of The Wheel are available now on BBC iPlayer.
