THE CUBE PUT ON HIATUS BY ITV WITH NO PLANS FOR 2022 SERIES
Award-winning gameshow The Cube will not return for a new series this year, TV Zone understands.
Though ITV have not ruled out returning to the format in the future, no series is planned for this year. A spokesperson for the producers confirmed to TV Zone: "There are no immediate plans for The Cube to return this year, however, as with previous series, its doors are not closed."
The Cube, hosted by Phillip Schofield, sees contestants attempt seemingly simple tasks within the high-pressure confines of the iconic, and often punishing Perspex box.
The contestants (and since 2020, duos) face a combination of games as they demonstrate skill and determination by braving The Cube, in the hope of winning a major cash prize. Each has nine lives to complete seven games, each worth an increasing amount of money, as they move closer to the £250,000 jackpot.
The Cube first aired between 2009-2015 before being revived in Autumn 2020 for a primetime special series 'The Million Pound Cube'. The series returned to its £250,000 format for a series which aired over Saturday nights last Autumn.
In the US, The Cube has been renewed for a second season on TBS. The US version of the show is hosted by NBA Champion and Olympic Gold medalist Dwayne Wade. As with the UK series, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games that are worth an increasing amount of money as they inch closer to taking home the $250,000 jackpot.
Whilst there are no plans for a new TV series, there is a chance for you to enter The Cube. Urban Playground, partnership with Objective Media Group, has brought The Cube to Manchester. The venue offers teams of four to play some of the iconic games from the TV series. The experience is open now.
