When human skeletal remains are found in a quarry outside small town Ólafsvík, the news about the discovery is broadcast nationally and three women are shaken to their core.

Karlotta is a hard-working nurse in recovery from alcohol dependency. Elisabet is a busy priest who has a family life to maintain. Anna is a chef in a restaurant but is about to open a catering service in the hope of leading a less exhausting life.

What dark secret from the past links these people? Detective Vera is under pressure to close this cold case quickly... but will she?
