Fourteen-year-old Holly has written a school essay in which she accuses her stepfather of physical abuse. Social worker Lars Madsen receives a report from the school.
Certain of Holly's narrative, as it's clear that she is frightened, he decides to act quickly, even though his supervisor expresses her doubts about his conclusions. Within a few hours, he succeeds in placing the girl and her younger brother Theo in emergency foster care.
In a state of shock, Holly's parents flat-out deny the accusations and are appalled by the council's handling of the case. Can Lars work out who in the family is lying and who is telling the truth, and in so doing uncover the family's secret?
