Channel 4 has commissioned from Story Films Catching My Stalker (w/t). This gripping documentary tells the true story of a young woman, Grace, who became the object of obsession for a dangerous and relentless stalker.

Faced with the reality that he would never stop, Grace and her boyfriend Daryl went to the police, but they soon realised the chilling truth: no one was coming to save them, the police couldn’t stop him. Their only choice was to take matters into their own hands. They needed evidence, so they pressed record, filming everything.

Armed with their devices, a doorbell camera and Grace’s true crime obsession this suburban couple caught their stalker in the act. Their evidence gathering led to the capture and conviction of a man who refused to accept reality.

Through intimate interviews with Grace, Daryl, and those closest to them, this film explores the psychological impact of being hunted — and not feeling believed by the authorities. Exclusive access to their own chilling evidence — obsessive messages, voice notes, doorbell camera footage, and police bodycam — drives the story forward in real time.

Set in the unassuming streets of Watford, everyday life becomes a battleground: baking cakes whilst researching murderer profiles, mixed martial arts training sessions that double as therapy.

Helen Waddell’s powerful film provides a gripping and shocking example of how stalking cases are handled in the UK. One in five women and one in eleven men will be stalked in their lifetime but the conviction rate for stalking is less than 2%, but this ordinary couple under extraordinary duress managed the impossible.

Catching My Stalker is produced by Story Films. Winner of multiple awards, including the ‘Factual Series’ award for Channel 4’s To Catch a Copper at the recent 2025 BAFTA TV Awards, the renowned producer specialises in premium documentary and high-end scripted drama. Part of All3Media, Story Films was founded by BAFTA-winning filmmakers David Nath and Peter Beard.

Director Helen Waddell said: “As well as a compelling crime story this film has issues under the surface that we all deal with: gender roles, consent, self-doubt and what it takes to do the right thing.”

Executive producer Liza Williams added: “In Helen’s brilliantly executed film we see the psychological toll stalking has on it’s victims, and the battle they face to be listened to. But this is also a film with warmth and hope. In the face of feeling utterly powerless and ignored, Grace and Daryl fight back together.  We thank them for being so open and honest in telling us their compelling story.”

Rita Daniels, Commissioning Editor said. “Its impossible to comprehend Grace’s terrifying stalker experience and equally the police’s inability to act effectively on a situation that could have been life threatening. As a commissioner I am honoured that Grace has chosen to share her story as part of the First Cut strand. There is so much to admire in her unrelenting dedication to get the conviction that was justly deserved.”

More details will be announced in due course.
