Vanished: The Hunt for Britain's Missing People | Preview (Channel 5)
Channel 5 have commissioned Vanished (4x60') from ITN Productions, which will focus on stories of currently missing people, plus those who have disappeared in recent years.
Every 90 seconds someone is reported missing in the UK. Most are found within hours, many are located in a matter of days... but there are some who seem to disappear, often with little or no trace.
This new, live, weekly series focusses on people who've gone missing across the UK - some cases well known, others not – each one with a unique set of causes, consequences and circumstances. Presenter Dan Walker will speak directly to loved ones, families and friends plus police and experts from missing people charities.
The four-part series will include appeals for information and helplines for those who are missing to make contact with, as well as providing updates on recent cases, whose which had positive resolutions and the cases which still remain unsolved.
Chanel 5 commissioner Daniel Pearl said: “It is clearly a sensitive and emotional subject, and ITN Productions will work closely with the families, friends and the primary organisations, including relevant police forces and charities, involved in missing persons cases.”
ITN's Ian Rumsey added: “There are a vast number of reasons why people go missing in the UK - and each case has its own unique causes and consequences. This is an important series for us to make and the stories we highlight will be handled sensitively. We want Vanished to assist the police and also support the families and loved ones of some of the thousands of people who go missing every year."
Vanished: The Search for Britain's Missing begins Thursday 30th March at 9pm on Channel 5.
