The Change | Preview (Channel 4)
Sharp, unflinching comedy from Bridget Christie, following Linda (Christie), a 50-year-old, married mother of two who's convinced she's got early onset dementia after forgetting what a shoe is called.
But when her GP tells her it is, in fact, the menopause, she feels invigorated and empowered by this information, and decides to do something for herself for a change. Dusting off her old Triumph, she heads to the Forest of Dean to find a time capsule she hid in a tree as a child, in an attempt to reconnect with the person that she used to be.
On day one in town, Linda rents a rancid old caravan from Agnes (Susan Lynch) and Carmel (Monica Dolan) - AKA the Eel Sisters - and meets Tony (Paul Whitehouse) at the local pub, whose problematic, outdated views last about as long as it takes you to buy him a pint. But just as she's settling into her new life, Linda inadvertently sets in motion a white lie that quickly snowballs.
In the second episode, Linda heads off into the forest to search for a time capsule she hid there when she was 10. But her tranquil journey is soon interrupted by the arrival of Pig Man (Jerome Flynn), a recluse who lives a solitary life in the woods with only the wild boar for company. And as Linda struggles to locate her capsule, it turns out that Pig Man may know more than he's letting on...
The Change begins Wednesday 21st June at 10pm on Channel 4.
