This special programme reveals how famous department store Selfridges celebrates the festive season.

We discover the secrets behind the famous Christmas windows and unveil this year’s creation – a theatrical extravaganza dubbed ‘showtime!’ which includes Santa Claus as a stage director, a Christmas tree diva and a stand-up comedy snowman.

We lift the lid on the history of the store and reveal the colourful life of the man who created it, Harry Gordon Selfridge. We discover how he was a pioneer who promoted the idea of shopping for pleasure rather than necessity and was one of the first retailers to embrace the power of advertising.

We reveal the top-of-the-range gifts on sale this year and explore the Christmas treats to be found in the famous food hall, including the most expensive luxury hamper costing a whopping £2500.
