Six ambitious chefs enter the MasterChef kitchen ready to prove they have what it takes to succeed in the competition. Across two demanding challenges, they’ll need to demonstrate skill, creativity and precision to impress renowned chef Monica Galetti and culinary legend Marcus Wareing. Only those who can deliver excellence under pressure will make it through.

First up, the famous skills test returns, but there is a twist. In the studio, the chefs discover that they won’t face it alone. Instead, they must compete side by side, intensifying the pressure. The aim is to recreate a technical dish designed by the judges. There’s little room for error, with every decision laid bare. Every chop, slice and saute will be under scrutiny not just from Monica and Marcus but each other.

Monica has set the bar high with a technical crab raviolo dish, served with a rich, deeply flavoured bisque. First, the chefs must tackle the crab, which involves cracking the shell without any shards making it into the dish. Then comes the bisque, where they’ll need to coax maximum flavour from the crab to create a sauce worthy of the finished plate.

For one chef, the bisque is a technique they’ve never attempted before, while another struggles with the consistency of their pasta and finds it increasingly difficult to keep their cool. As tensions and emotions run high, can the chefs pull everything together and deliver a restaurant-quality plate, or will the intense pressure of the skills test prove too much?

The heat ends with all six chefs returning to the kitchen for one final chance to impress the judges with their signature dish. They must showcase the food that defines them, pushing their culinary creativity to the limit in the hope of securing a place in the next round.

But with the standard higher than ever, there’s no room for complacency. It’s now up to Monica and Marcus to decide which five chefs have done enough to progress and who will hang up their MasterChef apron and leave the competition. The battle to become MasterChef: The Professionals champion is well and truly under way.

In the next episode, the remaining five chefs return to the kitchen for two demanding challenges that will push their skills, creativity and ambition to the limit as they battle for a place in the quarter-final.

Monica and Marcus are joined by special guest chef and Mexican maestro Santiago Lastra, who sets the chefs one of his most complex dishes to date: honey and chilli char-glazed duck breast, served with mole, a rich, deeply layered Mexican sauce, packed with toasted spices, dried chillies and layers of flavour.

But Santiago isn’t looking for a faithful recreation. He wants the chefs to take his dish as inspiration and make it their own. With the chef who impresses most earning a straight passage to the quarter-final, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Some chefs push their creativity in bold new directions, while others struggle to match the precision and depth of flavour Santiago demands.

Then there’s one final chance to secure their place in the quarter-final as they take on the signature dessert challenge. Often overlooked, pastry demands a different kind of precision where technique, timing and attention to detail are everything. With just one place separating success from elimination, Monica and Marcus expect the chefs to showcase their flair and individuality on the plate. With the competition closer than ever, who has done enough to stay in the race?

MasterChef: The Professionals begins Tuesday 3rd November at 8pm on BBC One.
