Vicky McClure stars in this psychological thriller, based on the novel by Sarah Pinborough. When a career woman's dream life turns into a nightmare, she fears she might be losing her mind. Is she going insane like her mother did?

In the weeks before her 40th birthday, Emma stops sleeping - just as her mother had done before she suffered a violent psychotic breakdown on the night of her own 40th birthday.
Emma’s mother always told her she’d go the same way, that she had the same ‘bad blood’, and now Emma’s terrified it’s true. But that doesn’t explain why her mother is in hospital after a sudden injury or why her estranged sister has shown up in town without a word of warning. Is exhaustion just making her paranoid or is something else amiss?
As Emma’s world begins to unravel, she realises that it is only by investigating the truth of her painful past that she can find the answers to her present and prevent tragedy from striking again.
Emma’s irritation at Phoebe’s presence gives way to shock when she learns that their mother is dead. Distracted, Emma accidentally hits a cyclist, care worker Caroline. That night, Emma’s disturbing night-time activity escalates when she wakes up calf-deep in the pond.
Emma is questioned by the police. Emma’s husband discovers their son Will has been obsessively drawing a horrific woman. To understand her night-time behavior, Emma places cameras around the house, and is horrified as the events unfurl on camera, culminating in Emma holding a pillow over Will.
Insomnia begins Sunday 6th July at 9pm on 5. Stream now on Paramount+.
