Jeanette Kwakye and JJ Chalmers will navigate through a busy morning for Team GB, which begins in central Paris as the much-anticipated women’s triathlon gets underway.

Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown had to settle for silver in Tokyo three years ago after suffering a cruel puncture on the bike leg of the race. This year, she’ll be competing alongside compatriot and world champion Beth Potter and Olympic debutant Kate Waugh.

Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix made history last year by becoming first British female divers to win a World Championship medal, and they are seeking another podium place in the women’s synchronised 10m platform final. There’s also medal chances in the rowing at the men’s and women’s quadruple sculls – the British women are the reigning world and European champions and are among the favourites.

It’s then over to the Place de la Concorde for the afternoon where Manchester’s Charlotte Worthington will try to trick her way to another Olympic title in the BMX freestyle.

Hazel Irvine introduces another high-octane afternoon of Olympic action as BMX freestyle, canoe slalom and gymnastics take centre stage on day five in the French capital.

Japan are seeking a record fourth successive gymnastics gold in the men’s individual all-around final, while the Brits have only ever won two medals in the event – Max Whitlock’s bronze in Rio came an eye-watering 108 years after Walter Tysall took silver in 1908.

The early afternoon will be dominated by the flips and tricks of the men’s BMX freestyle final, with Team GB’s reigning world champion Kieran Reilly likely to be in contention. Also taking place is judo, shooting and the thrilling women’s C1 canoe slalom final, with British world champion and Tokyo silver medallist Mallory Franklin seeking another podium finish.

Join Clare Balding for a colossal night of swimming as a plethora of star names take to the pool, headlined by the highly anticipated 100m freestyle finals.

The evening kicks off with the women’s 100m freestyle, and Australia’s double world champion Mollie O’Callaghan appears the one to beat. Brit Anna Hopkin finished seventh in this event three years ago.

With the USA’s defending champion Caeleb Dressel failing to qualify for the men’s 100m freestyle event, the door could be open for Tokyo silver medallist Kyle Chalmers, while Great Britain’s Matt Richards and home favourite Maxime Grousset could also push for the podium.

Elsewhere, American legend Katie Ledecky is favourite to further increase her medal haul in the women’s 1,500m final, and France’s five-time world champion Leon Marchand is also in action.
