JJ Chalmers and Jeanette Kwakye introduce the morning action at the games, including athletics and gymnastics, after Great Britain attempt to retain the triathlon mixed relay title.

The British team were impressive winners of the inaugural mixed relay Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, and Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee are back from that quartet to aim for a repeat.

At the Stade de France, British pole vaulter Molly Caudery will expect to successfully negotiate qualifying after winning the world indoor title in March, while Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Femke Bol of the Netherlands are the star attractions in the women’s 400m hurdles heats.

Grace and explosive strength combine in the first three gymnastics apparatus finals of the day, while the women’s singles reach a conclusion in badminton, where the shuttlecock can be hit a couple of times per second in lightning-fast rallies.

Hazel Irvine presents live coverage as an unmissable women’s floor final reaches its climax in the artistic gymnastics competition and British paddlers go for gold in the chaotic kayak cross.

Great Britain boast current men’s and women’s world champions Joe Clarke and Kimberley Woods in kayak cross, a new addition to the canoe slalom Olympics programme, in which competitors go head-to-head on the white-water course.

In track cycling, the women’s and men’s team sprints and men’s team pursuit get underway at the velodrome. Jack Carlin leads the British trio in a bid for a fifth consecutive Olympic team pursuit medal.

Over at the aquatics centre, the women’s 10m platform finalists will be confirmed, with Britain’s Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix among those looking to qualify. The Marseille Stadium will host the first of the two semi-finals in the men’s football competition.

Keely Hodgkinson seeks to end her run of global 800m silver medals and become Great Britain’s first Olympic champion in the event for 20 years.

Hodgkinson announced herself on the world stage with Olympic silver three years ago but has been left frustrated by finishing in the same position at the two subsequent World Championships and the Commonwealth Games. She lost two of those finals to Kenya’s Mary Moraa, who is again expected to be her main rival tonight.

A stacked women’s 5,000m final is likely to include Dutch sensation Sifan Hassan, who stormed to the first of her two Olympic golds in Tokyo in this event, along with world record holder Gudaf Tsegay.
