Paramount+ have released a first look trailer and confirmed the launch date for its new Ozzy Osbourne documentary, commissioned and filmed before the star's death earlier this year.
This is Ozzy like you’ve never seen before: an honest, warm and deeply personal portrait of one of the greatest rock stars of all-time, detailing how the singer’s world shuddered to a halt six years ago, forcing him to contemplate who he really is, confront his own mortality and question whether or not he can ever perform on stage for one last time.
Addressing his health issues and impact of his Parkinson’s diagnosis, the film showcases the central role music continues to play in Ozzy’s life, also proving his mischievous sense of humour remains resolutely intact despite it all.
Speaking earlier this year, Ozzy commented: "The last six years have been full of some of the worst times I’ve been through. There’s been times when I thought my number was up. But making music and making two albums saved me. I’d have gone nuts without music. My fans have supported me for so many years, and I really want to thank them and say a proper goodbye to them. That is what the Villa Park show is about.”
Sharon, also speaking earlier this year, added: "This film is an honest account of what has happened to Ozzy during the last few years. It shows how hard things have been for him and the courage he has shown while dealing with a number of serious health issues, including Parkinson’s...
"It’s about the reality of his life now. We have worked with a production team we trust and have allowed them the freedom to tell the story openly. We hope that story will inspire people that are facing similar issues to Ozzy."
Meanwhile, the BBC are also working on their own film, which was filmed over the past three years and originally intended as a fly-on-the-wall reality series which would document Ozzy and Sharon relocating back to the UK.
Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home is the moving and inspirational account of the last chapter of Ozzy’s life, told through unique and intimate access to the whole Osbourne family, including Sharon, Jack and Kelly.
Filmed over three years, it captures the extraordinary roller-coaster of their lives as Sharon and Ozzy attempt to complete their long-held dream of moving back to the UK, Ozzy heroically battles to get fit enough to perform, and the family deal with the dramatic consequences of his ill-health.
The film is full of love, laughter and tears and the kind of unforgettable family moments that we’ve come to expect from the Osbournes. It’s a remarkably candid and uplifting tribute to one of the world’s true icons, and documents the first family of rock as they are forced to accept, that, as Kelly says in the film, “Iron man wasn’t really made of iron”.
Ozzy: No Escape From Now lands Tuesday 7th October on Paramount+.
