It follows reports that Danny Dyer quit the series as host earlier this year (2022), at the same time as leaving his role on BBC's EastEnders.

The Wall, which first aired in Autumn 2019, has ran for four series to date, with the latest run concluding earlier this year. Hosted by EastEnders star Danny Dyer, the series also featured TV legend Angela Rippon as the question reader.

When asked by The Sun if he will be returning to the gameshow, Danny replied: "No". At the time, the BBC were said to be open to the idea of replacing Danny with a new host. TV Zone now understands this is now not on the table and the show will be quietly shelved.

A BBC spokesperson previously told The Sun: "Whilst The Wall is off air, fans can stream their favourite episodes on iPlayer plus there are plenty of other great quiz and game shows currently airing on Saturday nights on BBC One."

In each show one pair take on The Wall in three rounds that tests their general knowledge and trust in each other. In one round, contestants start out together playing for fast cash in Free Fall.

A multiple-choice question with two possible answers is asked by Angela and three white balls, from numbers 1, 4 & 7, drop down The Wall. The balls fall randomly towards one of the fifteen money slots of varying cash amounts at the bottom, hopefully towards the £2.5k slot, the highest amount in this round.

The players have until a ball has reached the money to lock in their answer – which is only a few seconds

If they’re correct, the balls turn green and the money the three balls landed in is added to their prize fund. However, if they’re wrong, the balls turn red and the money they potentially could have won is taken away from their prize fund!

The Wall is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
