THE HOTEL PEOPLE: BBC TWO EXPLORE HASTING HOTELS

This new series follows the hard-working team at a family run hotel group in Northern Ireland as they strive to bounce back post lockdown.

Established more than 50 years ago, Hastings Hotels had already weathered turbulent times during The Troubles, but Covid presented its biggest threat yet. With a vital, but uncertain, six months ahead, it’s going to be a challenge to rebuild the customer base, maintain a five-star service and keep their guests happy.

With a young and sometimes inexperienced workforce - almost half of the 1500 staff are under 30 - can the employees live up to the very exacting standards of Director of Hotels, James McGinn - while building a career in high-end hospitality.

Eddie Doyle, Head of BBC NI Commissioning says, “The Hotel People tells the amazing story of a proudly local, luxury hotel group and its young workforce, facing some extraordinary business challenges. We’re confident that viewers at home and across the UK are going to fall in love with warm, engaging and funny staff, as they go to remarkable lengths to deliver for their guests.”

Richard Williams, Chief Executive, Northern Ireland Screen Ireland says: “Northern Ireland is renowned for its friendly people and amazing hospitality. With the hotel industry trying to recover from the devastating impact of Covid-19 there is no better time to introduce UK audiences to our hotel people and show them what a wonderful welcome awaits should they decide to visit. Waddell Media is a fantastic company with a track record of producing popular lifestyle series and we are sure The Hotel People will be a big hit with viewers.”
