BBC TWO ANNOUNCES POMPEII: THE NEW DIG

Pompeii: The New Dig (w/t) follows the biggest excavation to be carried out in a generation at the world’s most famous archaeological site. A new dig is underway, and this series will track all the new discoveries.

Interweaving incredible finds with the stories of real individuals who we know lived in Pompeii, this series promises to change how we think about life in the ancient city.

Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Specialist Factual, says: “I’m delighted that the team at Pompeii are allowing the BBC to document this extraordinary excavation in a major three-part series. The dig has already yielded some incredible treasures, including new remains and the recently discovered “pizza fresco”, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.”

Richard Bradley, Chief Creative Officer, Lion TV, says: “To be filming a new dig of this scale at Pompeii is a unique privilege. The audience will have a ring-side seat as the archaeologists open a window into the ancient Roman world frozen in time two thousand years ago. The discoveries are already thrilling with more to come.”

Pompeii: The New Dig (w/t) is a 3x60 minute series for BBC Two and iPlayer, commissioned by Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Specialist Factual, and executive produced by Richard Bradley, Chief Creative Officer Lion TV.

It is co-produced by The Open University and ARTE. The Commissioner for ARTE is Hélène Ganichaud. The series is produced by Pompeii expert Elena Mortelliti, and the Producer is Marco Gangarossa. It is distributed by All3M and will tx in 2024.
