BBC ANNOUNCES PRIDE MONTH HIGHLIGHTS

Across the month of June, BBC Three and iPlayer will be commemorating Pride with a host of programming and content that explores and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.

From brand new programmes such as I Kissed A Boy: The Reunion to comedy short This is Gay and Keeping up with Krystal Versace to ground-breaking documentaries and award winning films, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer promise viewers a host of LGBTQ+ content to look forward to.

Fiona Campbell, Controller for Youth Audiences, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer says: “BBC Three and BBC iPlayer are proud to showcase content with a focus on the LGBTQ+ community across the entire year and we are delighted to be able amplify this further and shine a light on this collection of bold, innovative and unique content during Pride month.”

Highlights are as follows:

I Kissed A Boy: The Reunion

Ahead of the final of BBC Three’s ground-breaking dating series, I Kissed A Boy, this one-off studio special will see Dannii Minogue getting the latest goss from the boys (their love lives, their newfound fame, any lingering chemistry...), celebrate the Masseria's greatest moments and take a deep dive into the drama and lead the boys through some outrageously funny party games. It's loud and it’s proud. Strap in for I Kissed A Boy: The Reunion.

This Is Gay

As part of a batch of brand new BBC Comedy Short Films, This is Gay - written and created by Kirk Flash - makes it’s linear debut on BBC Three. They’re called 'gays' - but what are they? Who are they? And why? Part mockumentary, part sketch show, This is Gay attempts to answer these important questions. Your guide, a figure simply known as 'Host,' takes you on a strange adventure with many stop-offs along the way, including renaissance Italy, modern-day London, a charming Welsh parish and a fridge.

Keeping up with Krystal Versace

Keep up with RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Series 3 winner Krystal Versace as she prepares for her solo show with her drag family. Krystal and her family will share the iconic London Palladium stage for the very first time, but will the pressure to pull it all off before opening night cause a rift in the family? As Krystal manages a hectic tour and her evolving brand, creating “The Next World" with her standard of perfection may be too much for her drag family to handle!

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (series 3)

Another chance for viewers to enjoy the iconic third series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as Mama Ru presides over twelve of the nation’s most fabulous queens who compete to be crowned the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar under the watchful eye of Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Graham Norton plus a gaggle of guest judges including Matt Lucas, Oti Mabuse and Kathy Burke.

Olly Alexander: Growing up Gay

In this eye-opening film, young pop culture icon Olly Alexander explores why the gay community is more vulnerable to mental health issues, as he opens up about his own long-term battles with depression. As the outspoken frontman of British band Years and Years, Olly is a powerful voice on mental health, bullying and LGBT+ rights.

Thursday 15th June at 9.00pm on BBC Three and available now via BBC iPlayer.

Lily: A Transgender Story

Filmed over five years, this is the story of Lily Jones and her transition from male to female – a journey which began when she was 15 and living with her farming family in mid-Wales. First shown in 2020.

Lily's life has been captured throughout, including this new chapter in which she is preparing for her next step, gender reassignment surgery, as well as making the big move of leaving behind her rural family home in Aberystwyth for a new life in Birmingham.

Pride

BAFTA nominated comedy drama film. In 1984, with Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative Party in power, a group of lesbian and gay activists, led by Mark Ashton, find unlikely allies in a collective of Welsh miners taking industrial action following pit closures.

With both groups equally despised by Thatcher, Ashton proposes a show of solidarity between them, but tabloid smears and a frosty reception from the miners' families threaten to derail his plans.
