ITV AXE PLANS FOR WHEEL OF FORTUNE REBOOT WITH ALISON HAMMOND

Wheel Of Fortune sees contestants compete to solve word puzzles to win cash and prizes.

At the centre of the studio is a giant carnival wheel that contestants spin throughout the programme to determine their prize(s). It originally ran from 1989-2001 on ITV with host Nicky Campbell.

Last year, The Sun revealed that This Morning host Alison Hammond recorded a pilot episode for ITV. It's now been revealed that ITV will not be commissioning a series. TV Zone originally reported that ITV were not moving forward with the project in July 2021.

A 'TV insider'' told The Sun: "Execs were hoping this might be the perfect vehicle for Alison and be a stepping stone to bigger things...

"It would also help with the fact there are still very few women hosting game shows on the channel, even though they’re the one of the broadcaster’s biggest audience draws. But the feeling was doing this particular reboot of Wheel Of Fortune was not going to work, so they decided not to take the project any further with Alison."

Meanwhile, Alison Hammond recorded a pilot alongside Vernon Kay for a potential reboot of Friends Like These on BBC One. TV Zone understands no final decision has been made on whether to commission a series.

This pilot of the classic gameshow Friends Like These will see real life friends Alison Hammond and Vernon Kay keeping the peace as two teams of pals face-off in a series of head-to-head studio challenges.

The teams must decide amongst themselves who will be best placed to take on each challenge, depending on their strengths – it’s all about the perfect pick! The team who win the most challenges will get the chance to play for a cash prize. This is the ultimate game to test friendship.
