Production company Banijay Entertainment has acquired the rights to produce international editions, including potentially the UK, of strategic reality show Werewolves. Based on the classic boardgame, the rights have been acquired from Studiocanal and Dreamspark.

Based on a successful boardgame, Werewolves is a nail-biting strategy game unfolding in real time, and built on deception, skill and trust. In a remote village deep in the forest, thirteen strangers known as the ‘Villagers’ come together to win a prize pot.

But hidden amongst them are the ‘Werewolves’, a secret group who will devise a plan to eliminate their fellow players one by one and steal the prize. In this gripping game of manipulation, will the Villagers unmask the Werewolves in time.

Helen Greatorex, Head Of Format Acquisitions at Banijay Entertainment said: "Werewolves is one of the hottest formats on the market, and representing this is a major coup for us at Banijay Entertainment. With its cult board game origins, an atmospheric forest-set production, dramatic strategic gameplay, and dark cinematic undertones, this format is built to travel. It perfectly complements our premium offering, and we’re excited to scale it internationally through our global network of labels."

Meanwhile, ITV Studios announces that Solitary, the bold and controversial reality game show that was the number one show on FOX Reality Channel and created by Lincoln Hiatt and Andrew Golder, is joining its format catalogue.

In Solitary, contestants are confined to isolation pods with no sense of day or night, no human contact, and no alliances. Guided only by Val, an ever-present computer entity, they face relentless physical and mental challenges until the last one standing claims the prize. The only rule: don’t quit first.

Mike Beale, MD Creative Network, ITV Studios, said: “Solitary is an audacious format that still feels incredibly fresh today. With its arcing competition, it can work for both linear and streaming services. We’re thrilled to bring it into our catalogue and be working with Lincoln and Andrew to relaunch it in the market.”

The format has previously travelled to Germany (ProSieben) and Brazil (SBT).
