Afternoon quiz show The Tournament has been axed by BBC One after two series.

Hosted by Alex Scott, it’s the ultimate knockout competition, where eight players battle each other on the Tournament Run in a series of exciting tug-of-war quiz matches they attempt to knock their opponents out of the game and steal their cash.

Only one player will make it to the end, when they will have the chance to double their money on the Golden Run. The series aired its second series last Autumn, which has now been revealed to be its last.

A BBC spokesperson told TV Zone: “The Tournament had two great series but we need to make room for new opportunities. We'd like to thank Alex and the team for all their hard work.”
