THE RESPONDER: MARTIN FREEMAN RETURNS FOR SECOND SERIES OF BBC DRAMA
If you missed it
The second biggest new drama of 2022 so far was The Responder, launching with nearly 10 million viewers across 30-days.
The Responder will return for a second series and will once again be set and filmed in Liverpool.
Written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, his first original series for television, The Responder holds a mirror up to the emotional extremes of life on the front line of British policing - sometimes darkly funny, sometimes painfully tragic, always challenging.
The Responder follows Chris Carson (Martin Freeman), a crisis-stricken, morally compromised, unconventional urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool.
Whilst trying to keep his head above water both personally and professionally, Chris is forced to take on a new rookie partner Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo).
Both soon discover that survival in this high pressure, relentless, night-time world will depend on them either helping or destroying each other.
The series was renewed alongside The Tourist, Time and Vigil. More details on all recommissions can be found on our website.
Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer says: “The BBC is on fire creatively and the return of four of our biggest dramas over the last year demonstrates the sheer scale and range of storytelling on the BBC.”
The Responder (5x60’) series 2 is written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher and produced by Dancing Ledge Productions for BBC One and iPlayer.
Series 1 available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. More details will be revealed in due course.
