Netflix have finally formally announced new series The Next Act, fronted by Simon Cowell and released this December.

The synopsis for the show reads: "Music mogul and record executive Simon Cowell has single-handedly created some of the biggest music superstars in the world. In this six-episode docuseries, cameras follow him as he sets out to do it again — create the next global boy band sensation...
"From raw open casting calls to the release of their debut single, this is an all-access pass for viewers to catch every moment of Simon’s next chapter. Will he strike gold once again?"
Previous reports suggested that the show would be adapted into a documentary type programme after struggling to find talent in the audition episodes, however The Mail now reports that the show will 'mirror' The X Factor format with audition episodes, a 'judge's houses' state and a run of pre-recorded semi finals.
A source previously told The Mirror: "Previously Simon has looked to ITV for his projects, but he now feels global streaming platforms are the way forward. He wants to find the next 1D and use one of these platforms and launch them to the world..."
Meanwhile, another music competition launched on Netflix earlier this month. Building The Band brings together 50 of the most talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands without ever seeing each other.
All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry, and merit. What will happen when the bands finally meet and … looks, choreography, and style come into play? Incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal: find the next great music band.
AJ McClean (Backstreet Boys) will host the series, with Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls), the late Liam Payne (One Direction), and Kelly Rowland (Destiny's Child) make up the judging panel. They will be joined throughout the series by guest judges.
More details will be announced in due course.
