PROFESSOR T RETURNS TO ITV IN 2026 FOR FOURTH SERIES, FIRST LOOK IMAGES RELEASED

ITV have confirmed the fourth series of Professor T will air in 2026 on ITV1 and ITVX. ITV previously announced the fourth series would air this Autumn.

Ben Miller (Bridgerton, Death in Paradise) returns to play Cambridge’s illustrious Professor Jasper Tempest, whilst Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, The History Boys), also reprises her role as the Professor’s mother Adelaide Tempest and they are joined by Zoe Wanamaker (Shadow and Bone, My Family) as her sister, and the Professor’s aunt, Zelda Radclyffe, while Juliet Stevenson (Emma, Truly Madly Deeply) returns as psychologist Dr Helena Goldberg.

Barney White (Against the Law), Sunetra Sarker (Playing Nice, Casualty), and Rhian Blundell (Vampire Academy, Nobody Girl), who play Detective Dan Winters, DCI Maiya Goswami, and Detective Chloe Highsmith respectively, will also return.

In the fourth series, after Season 3’s shocking finale, Dan and Jasper are consumed by grief. Dan throws himself into work while the Professor hides in his lectures, avoiding the police at all costs. But Helena, Jasper’s therapist, helps him face back up to his police work and the team tackles complex and dangerous cases. But through the danger and mystery, love is very much in the air.

Episode 1: Since Lisa’s death, Jasper is unable to face police work while Dan’s throwing himself into long hours at work. With Adelaide travelling the world, her sister Zelda (an old flame of the Dean’s) arrives to look after her home. Maiya hires a new DC, Chloe Highsmith, and with Dan, they tackle a tricky case involving the disappearance of a young woman on a boat. Jasper is forced to get involved too.

Episode 2: Jasper is dragged to a retirement home by Zelda to meet her date, Peter, when a murder takes place at the home. Jasper is drawn into the case but Dan finds this frustrating and ends up snapping at Jasper. Maiya insists the men have a therapy session together where Helena helps them to open up and they manage to solve the case together. Meanwhile, the Dean is put out when he learns of Zelda’s date.

Meanwhile, ITV have also confirmed a fifth series has been commissioned. With six brand new episodes featuring some unexpected new relationships and more complex crimes for the Professor and police unit to tackle; including a boxing match that takes a bloody turn and a series of inexplicable sudden deaths at an upmarket spa, many favourite characters will face some tough choices, and the stakes for Professor T and his team have never been higher.
