PREVIEW: We Are Lady Parts, Channel 4

Nida Manzoor's anarchic and irreverent music comedy following a Muslim female punk band - called Lady Parts - who are on a mission to find a lead guitarist and maybe, just maybe, get a proper gig.

The six-part series shows the highs and lows of the band as seen through the eyes of Amina (Anjana Vasan), a geeky microbiology PhD student, who is recruited to be their unlikely lead guitarist.

The band's fierce and enigmatic frontwoman Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey) sees something in Amina that the others can't. Saira uses Amina's desperation to find a husband as leverage, offering to set her up with potential matches if she agrees to join the band.

Amina has never, ever met girls like this before, and soon gets swept up in their joyful, anarchic energy and punk spirit. But she's torn between two different worlds: her more strait-laced uni friends and the band, who urge her to find her voice.

Will she be the key to the band's success? And will she finally find a husband? In the opening episode, PhD student and part-time guitar teacher Amina desperately searches for a husband. Meanwhile, punk band Lady Parts' rehearsals are cut short when fiery frontwoman Saira insists that they need a lead guitarist.

The whole series will be available to stream or download for free on All 4 following the transmission of the first episode on Thursday 20 May.
