Vigil | Series 2 Preview (BBC One)

Hit BBC drama Vigil will look to the skies for its second series, with a brand-new investigation that takes Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) into the world of the British air force.

The six-part drama, made by World Productions (Line of Duty, Showtrial, Save Me, Bodyguard) for BBC One and iPlayer, will begin filming soon in Scotland.

In a brand-new investigation, Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) look to the skies as they enter the secret world of drone warfare to catch a killer.

Following multiple deaths at a Scottish weapons test, Silva and Longacre are tasked with finding out the cause. Entering the closed ranks of the air force in Scotland and the Middle East, the pair face the deadly warfare of tomorrow as they fight for their own uncertain future.

Vigil stars Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, Doctor Foster) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downtown Abbey) alongside Gary Lewis (His Dark Materials, Granite Harbour) who returns as DSU Robertson.

They will be joined for series two by Romola Garai (Becoming Elizabeth, The Hour), Dougray Scott (Crime, Enigma), Amir El-Masry (SAS Rogue Heroes, Limbo).

Plus; David Elliot (The Liberator, Bulletproof), Chris Jenks (Sex Education, Karen Pirie), Tommy Sim’aan (The Midwich Cuckoos, Doctors), Oscar Salem (House of the Dragon, Des), Jonathan Ajayi (Noughts + Crosses) and Hiba Medina in her first major TV role, all playing key roles across the six new episodes.

Episode 1 - When a British Air Force weapons test goes disastrously wrong, DCI Amy Silva is called in to investigate. With seven military personnel dead, two from Britain’s allies in the Middle East, Amy finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a fraught international incident. The Air Force think they have the guilty party in custody and push for Amy and DI Kirsten Longacre to close the case. But Amy isn’t convinced.

Episode 2 - Amy and Kirsten are battling for their lives against a ruthless armed killer. They manage to escape. Following new evidence the case takes a turn. Amy must go to the Air Force base in the Middle East.

There she learns someone on the base was complicit in the attack. Meanwhile, in Scotland, Kirsten hunts down Chapman’s killer determined not to let her pregnancy get in the way of her mission.

Episode 3 - Following the stabbing of an officer on the base, Eliza warns Amy to get control of her investigation. Amy must find the traitor in the ranks of the Air Force. Kirsten, now working with MI5 partner Ramsay, uncovers key evidence linking a squadron member to the attack.

With the force running out of leads on Chapman’s killer, Kirsten follows a hunch. Amy takes a grave risk that puts her in jeopardy.

Vigil (6x60’) series two begins Sunday 10th December on BBC One.
