The Teacher | Series 2 Preview (Channel 5)
The Teacher series 2 follows the story of Dani, a teacher who loves her job. She’s a mentor and inspiration to her students, but what she lacks is a properly functioning marriage with real intimacy and mutual desire. This leads her into an impulsive affair with a fellow colleague that at first answers all her needs, but soon spirals out of control.
When a pupil goes missing on a school trip, Dani rightly blames herself for being too easily distracted. When things take a sinister turn, she is forced to lie, and quickly finds her life falling to pieces. She risks everything to right the wrongs that she has, in part, been responsible for.
Kara Tointon (Too Good to Be True, Archie, Mr Selfridge) leads the cast as Dani, with Will Mellor (Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, Broadchurch, Line of Duty) starring as Jimmy, and Emmett J Scanlan (Fool Me Once, Kin and Peaky Blinders, Argylle) as Tim.
In the first episode, Dani Oxley, a passionate art teacher, stands by a school bus checking off students’ names as they board. She greets fellow teacher Jimmy, and his boisterous son Matt. Dani has a stilted goodbye with her detached husband Tim. She goes to the art room to find Sienna, a troubled but talented student, drawing. Dani, Sienna and lastly Zac board the bus and they travel to the Mallory Adventure Centre.
Tensions rise between Matt and Zac, which unsettles Dani, but she’s preoccupied. A spark between her and Jimmy on the first night leads to a passionate kiss.
