Channel 4 has commissioned the four-part series from Strawberry Blond TV that will take viewers on a voyage from bustling waterways to remote, isolated communities reliant on the sea to survive. On the way they’ll discover the natural beauty of estuaries, oceans, channels and coastlines.

Led by Rev. Coles across four of the 31 areas mapped out by the shipping forecast, the broadcaster and writer will take us on a journey to meet some of the people and communities living and working in these regions. Featuring the Faeroes, Lundy, Thames and Wight we will see what life is like at sea, and how an ecosystem ashore is sustained by the rich life around the waters of Britain and its neighbouring countries.

Reverend Richard Coles said: “For years I’ve listened to the shipping forecast with only half an idea of where these exotic sounding places are. I’m very excited to be a part of this journey around the country and feel privileged to meet just some of the maritime communities of our coasts.”

Jayne Stanger, Senior Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 commented: “We can’t wait to see what Strawberry Blond will deliver for More4 and are especially excited that Reverend Coles is on board to present the series.”

Steve Wynne, CEO, Strawberry Blond TV added: “The shipping forecast is an integral fixture to the UK’s broadcasting schedule, and we wanted to explore the unique worlds of some of these sea areas for television. We’re so glad Richard is captaining this exploration.”

Sailing the Shipping Forecast (4 x 60’) begins Monday 20th October at 9pm on More4.
