Return To The Isle Of Wight: Jewel Of The South | Preview (Channel 5)

Prepare to step into paradise as we return to the enchanting Isle of Wight for a brand new series.

Celebrating its breath-taking natural beauty and rich historical heritage, we follow the lives of residents whose families have lived here for generations, as well as newcomers to this irresistible island.

It’s summer on the Isle of Wight, and in Cowes, we join local ice cream producers and sisters Louise Hart and Jenny Simmons, who are rolling out a brand-new flavour for the season – and hoping to melt hearts at one of the biggest events in the Island’s calendar - The Royal Isle of Wight County Show.

Near the historic town of Yarmouth, owners Neil and Michelle Payne gave up their day jobs to follow their dream and set up their alpaca walking business.

Now, in need of more alpacas, it’s time for the animals to get down to business and procreate – but will love blossom when Flossy meets her new beau Luca? Pregnant alpaca Lesley-Anne goes into labour and needs help giving birth.

Sailor Libby Finch and her crew on their yacht the Nightjar compete against 1100 boats in the iconic Round the Island Race, a gruelling 50-nautical-mile course beginning and ending in Cowes, which tests them – and their boat - to the limits.

In Seaview, it’s a 6am start for ecologist Jamie Marsh and a team of dedicated volunteers as they race against time and tide to gather thousands of precious seagrass seeds, needed to repopulate the depleted seagrass meadows around the island.

And an amateur inventor goes the extra mile to create an impression. Love blossomed for Nick when he built his wife Carolyn a replica of her dream motor – the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car – perfectly designed for pootling around the delightful Isle of Wight coast.

Return to the Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South begins Thursday 1st February on Channel 5.
