No Place Like Home | Preview (Channel 5)

Following on from the first series, which was fronted by The Repair Shop's Jay Blades, the revamped full series will feature a host of new celebrities as they explore their own history on their doorstep.

No Place Like Home will see Amanda Abbington, Fern Britton, JJ Chalmers, Victoria Derbyshire, Chris Kamara, and Ben Miller take a walk down memory lane returning to the neighbourhoods where they grew up, discovering the history that was on their doorstep all along.

Each episode sees a celebrity learning more about themselves and the places they called ‘home’ as they explore the areas that made them. The series travels across the UK, with Ben Miller returning to Nantwich; JJ Chalmers heading to Edinburgh; Chris Kamara visiting Middlesbrough; Fern Britton going back in time to Buckinghamshire; Amanda Abbington to Hertfordshire and Victoria Derbyshire returning ‘home’ to Bury and Littleborough (Greater Manchester).

The first episode is with Fern Britton, who returns to Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire, and learns it was far from the sleepy backwater she remembers as she uncovers a history of rebellion she never knew existed, with links to suffragettes, squatters and wartime spies.

Dan Baldwin, Managing Director and Executive Producer said: “No Place Like Home is a special series that combines history, community and celebrity. The streets where we grow up shape us as people. In this series the celebrities, alongside the Channel 5 viewers, are going to have their eyes opened to the magical places they grew up, and the incredible history on their doorsteps.”

Daniel Pearl, Commissioning Editor, Unscripted, at Channel 5 (VP) said: “Our audience really connected with this series, so it was clear that we should expand this format and explore more stories continuing to prove that Channel 5 develops returnable series and works with exciting talent”

No Place Like Home begins Wednesday 4th January on Channel 5.
