Emergency | Series 3 Preview (Channel 4)

Channel 4 have reportedly commissioned a third series of Emergency.

The ground-breaking series telling the story of the London Major Trauma System will return soon for a third series on Channel 4.

Set up in the wake of the London bombings of 2005, it’s a unique interconnected network of hospitals, air ambulances and paramedics that provide a lifeline for 10 million people in London and the South-East. A system that has improved the chances of survival for major trauma patients by 50%.

With access right across this system, Emergency is a present-tense medical documentary box-set - four serial episodes over a single week - following the minute-by-minute decisions trauma teams make to treat the most serious cases: from life-saving interventions at the road-side to A&E critical care, from cutting-edge surgery to painstaking rehabilitation.

In the first episode, A 38-year-old paratrooper arrives at the Royal London after a paragliding accident. He has lost sensation in his legs and needs specialist high-risk surgery to fix his compacted spine and pelvis if he's to have a chance of walking again.

Emergency returns Monday 12th August on Channel 4.
