Channel 5 has gained exclusive access to music royalty Dolly Parton for a brand-new special Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words (1x90’), produced by Lonesome Pine.


Being inaugurated into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has given Dolly the opportunity to make her first Rock & Roll album. In this programme, we hear from the global icon herself, talking about her work and how it has led to her remarkable new album, Rockstar.


Using exclusive new interviews and archive footage, Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words explores just what has made Dolly Parton and her music so revered across the Globe. From her epic discography leading to the Rockstar album, Dolly captures the hearts and minds of everyone who discovers her work, irrespective of background, generation, or gender.

In this 90-minute special, alongside hearing from Dolly herself, we’ll also speak to singer-song writers and musicians Emmylou Harris and Peter Frampton, as well as radio and television presenter Ken Bruce, to get further insight into the music of Dolly Parton.


Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words was commissioned for Channel 5 by Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor, Factual Entertainment and Unscripted, Channel 5 & Paramount+. Executive Producers for Lonesome Pine are Lewis Carnie and Lesley Douglas and the Director is Matt O’Casey.
