For the first time it has been revealed that a multi vehicle pile up is at the centre of the drama that sees the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale collide for one night only. The atmospheric trailer shows the aftermath of the crash on a dark and stormy country road near the village of Hotten.

Desperate voices call for help in the darkness as the emergency services arrive. Fans of both soaps will recognise them as David Platt, Tracy Barlow, Liam Cavanagh, and Aaron Dingle. Corrie actors Jack P Shepherd and Kate Ford, plus Emmerdale’s Johnny McPherson join Danny Miller and Vicky Myers as names revealed to be amongst the cast of the one hour episode.

But what has brought the residents of Weatherfield across the Pennines to Yorkshire, and how have the characters from the two soaps ended up in the catastrophic collision?

In the aftermath of the multiple vehicle smash Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) takes control of the situation whilst a frantic Carla Connor (Alison King) can be seen trying to calm someone down.

Injured Shona and David Platt (Julia Goulding and Jack P Shepherd) are tended to at the roadside by Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), whilst Corrie’s own trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) shares the screen with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) as she tries to help more casualties.

Both shows have pregnant women caught up in the drama, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) can be seen trying to help a screaming Shona in a scene in Hotton General Hospital.

And as the trailer draws to a close Kevin and Abi Webster (Michael Le Vell and Sally Carman-Duttine)  search for Debbie at the crash site, while a desperate Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) screams out for Aaron in the darkness alongside Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).

Other characters confirmed as being amongst the residents of Weatherfield and Emmerdale caught up in the drama are Corrie’s Kit Green, James Bailey, Asha Alahan, Carla Connor and Shona Platt whilst Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Charity Dingle, Jacob Gallagher, Robert Sugden and Joe Tate are added to the previously announced David Platt, Tracy Barlow, Liam Cavanagh, Aaron Dingle and Lisa Swain.

Corriedale airs Monday 5th January at 8pm on ITV1.
