The King's Coronation | Sky Preview

Sky News has confirmed plans for coverage of the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort on Saturday 6th May across TV & streaming, special programming and podcasts.

Widely considered ‘THE Coronation expert’, Sky News royal events commentator Alastair Bruce is an encyclopaedia of royal history with an unrivalled knowledge of the intricacies of the event. He’ll be with Sky News presenters Kay Burley and Anna Botting throughout the day, guiding viewers through the historic ceremonial proceedings.

Dame Joanna Lumley will be a special guest having ‘thrilled’ Sky News audiences at the Queen’s Jubilee last year. The Absolutely Fabulous actress will join the Sky News line-up on Saturday fresh from attending the Coronation service at Westminster Abbey as a guest of the King and Queen Consort.

John Ryley, Head of Sky News, said: “Whether unifying or polarising, the spectacle of the King's Coronation is guaranteed to capture the world's attention. With the ceremonial events never seen in this great a clarity, Sky News will offer audiences the highest-quality Ultra HD coverage with the best royal commentator in Alastair Bruce. He'll take viewers through this historical moment with his unmatched knowledge and skill to get the tone just right.”

Nearly 70 years after Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation – a milestone for TV broadcasting – a new generation of people around the world will be able to watch the King and Queen Consort crowned in the clarity of Ultra HD, for free on Sky News. Viewers will get the best seat in the house wherever they are and on any device with multiple live stream cameras available to watch on the website, App and on YouTube. The cameras will be located at key locations for the day’s events, offering unprecedented access to the pomp and pageantry.

In addition to the live coverage, a special 30-min documentary ‘King Charles: My King’ with Niall Paterson will air on Sky News on Sunday 30th April at 8pm. The documentary travels the country exploring public opinion towards the King and the monarchy, taking a temperature test for support, and looking at the challenges that may be ahead for the new Head of State. It will also be available to watch on the Sky News website, YouTube and On Demand on TV.

A three-episode podcast miniseries ‘Queen Camilla: For the love of Charles’ will launch on 3rd May. Fronted by Kay Burley, the podcast follows Camilla’s journey to becoming Queen, speaking with those who know her well and asking, how Camilla and the Palace have turned public opinion from her being the ‘most hated woman in Britain’ to being embraced as the new Queen.
