Set in the mystery-shrouded Peak District, DC Ben Cooper (Robert James-Collier), an affable local, is thrown together with guarded newcomer DC Diane Fry (Mandip Gill), to investigate a string of mysterious deaths.

Based on the bestselling novels by Stephen Booth, the two mismatched detectives must work together on a series of unusual cases to get results. Despite Fry’s pessimism of local folklore, they’ll need to navigate not only the twisted paths of the cases before them, but also the shadowy beliefs that still hold sway in the hills.
As their personal lives begin to intertwine and past scars look to be healed, a unique friendship is formed. While Cooper and Fry unearth old rituals and beliefs, they must rely on each other to not only bring justice, but to survive.
In the first episode, after a body is unearthed on a Derbyshire farm during renovations, DC Ben Cooper is tasked to investigate and partnered up with DC Diane Fry, newly transferred from Leeds but under somewhat mysterious circumstances.
As Fry gets used to policing in the countryside, local Cooper isn’t too keen to have to show a new person the ropes. But the two detectives must get past their initial awkwardness and differing approaches in a search for the truth.
Aided by DS Todd Eland and DI Paul Hitchens, the two detectives dig into the murky history of Tanglewood Farm by quizzing elderly ex-owner Raymond Carlisle until they receive news from Dr Juliana Taylor.
A second body has been uncovered at the farm. And this body is missing its head. As Cooper teaches Fry about local Edendale folklore surrounding a severed head known as ‘Screaming Billy’, disturbing truths emerge that cast a black shadow over the town and lead Cooper and Fry into a deadly fight for justice.
Cooper And Fry begins Tuesday 11th November at 9pm on 5.
