Respected doctors and health content creators Dr Alex George and Dr Nighat Arif are prescribing their expertise to brand new BBC One and iPlayer series Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley.

As one in three Brits turn to social media for health advice, the series - from award-winning production company Nutopia - will help viewers cut through the noise of some of the viral wellness trends taking over our social media feeds.

Stacey will explore some of the internet's most hyped medical claims, tracing how a trend goes viral and meeting the influencers driving the buzz. Alongside Alex and Nighat, Stacey will then test the truth behind the science of these trends covering everything from extreme leg-lengthening surgery, NAD+ drips and the carnivore diet to testosterone, methylene blue and dog deworming tablets that some believe can cure cancer.

In the first episode, Stacey explores a growing looksmaxxing trend and travels to Miami to witness a shocking surgery where people have their legs broken to get six inches taller.

Dr Dror Paley, a leading US surgeon, explains how limb lengthening has transformed from a cutting-edge reconstructive surgery into a popular cosmetic procedure at his clinic. Stacey meets one of his patients who decided to get the surgery after a divorce and spent over a year in rehabilitation before reaching 6ft 1in.

Stacey returns to the UK to turn her attentions to a laundry powder called Borax, which sparked an international outcry after people claimed on TikTok that drinking it could cure joint pain. Tracing the digital trail leads her to a small village and farm shop in north Yorkshire where the claims bizarrely seem to have originated.

Presenter, former A&E doctor and mental health advocate Dr Alex George said: “I've spent plenty of time searching online for answers about my own health, but I've also spent years working as a doctor. Looking at some of the claims going viral from both perspectives has been fascinating, and I'm really excited to explore them with Stacey and Nighat.”

GP, author and health content creator Dr Nighat Arif said: "This is a dream project for me and even better it’s with Stacey and Alex. I've often seen the very real impact of harmful online health advice in my clinic, so helping to untangle this for viewers could not be more important. The one thing I want them to be able to say, ‘is this something that is evidence-based or is this something that could potentially not work or even do me harm?"

Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley begins this September on BBC One.
